ー本当に英語しか話せないの？ー
以前、人に、
Long time ago, a person said to me,
「お前、本当に英語しか話せないのか？」
“Is it right that your speaking language is only English?”
と言われたことがありましたが、
however,
今、思い返すと、色々な捉え方があるので、
I remember now and I notice there are many points of view.
色々な視点で考えてみたいです。
Let’s think about it!
①私の日本語はわかりにくいという意見を頂いた。
1.The person’s opinion was that my Japanese is difficult to understand.
②日本語も話すことができるはずなのに、いつも英語で返すことに
注意してくださった。
2. The person advised me, “You should speak Japanese as well as English”.
③英語以外も話すことができると思うという助言を戴いた。
3. The person advised me, “You can speak other foreign languages”.
④相手は自分のプライドを傷つけられたと感じていたとも考えられます。
4. The person felt to be hurt by the person’s own pride.
当時私は、
At that time, I answered,
『ポルトガル語なら、ありがとうは「オブリガータ」です』と、
“In Portuguese, ‘Thank you’ translated as ‘Obrigada’ “
答えたと思います。
理由があって、私が初めて会った外人さんは、ポルトガル人だったからです。
This is because the foreigner I first met was Portuguese.
ということで、少し考えて、自分なりの回答をしました。
I thought in a few minutes, and I chose my original response.
③で返しましたが、その人の意図はわかりません。
I chose No.3, but I didn’t know what the person thought.
